I think they are melted paraffin used in candle so not so sure about the yum ;)
I believe you can capture much greater shots if you take some more time on composition and defining some goal on each shot

I don't see readily how one can improve the composition of this picture given the subject matter. I believe that the colors and the well-worn pots and working area convey exactly what this shot is supposed to convey.
